Stacy and I have been together now for over eight years. So far we have had many adventures and a simple happiness with each other. We aren't the same as when we first started, but I like to think we feel as young and free. The last few months have been the start of what could be considered (in a simplified break-down) the fourth version of our relationship. A quick summary of the first three:
1.0 Meet in college. Immediately fall for each other, spend exciting summers together, help each other finish school. Travel, work, play... Basically do whatever we want.
2.0 Done with school, quandaries of purpose, no future, take separate paths that interweave and eventually join again... Basically figuring out what to do.
3.0 Back together. Finish house, get married, new jobs, good friends and family, yeah!!! Basically pretend like we can do whatever we want just a bit longer...
4.0 One event is the cause of this change: we are having a child. This event will truly define us as a family, will be part of the creation of a new generation and will be our greatest experiment and adventure yet. It is something we knew we wanted someday and hoped we could do, but something that we though we could be more prepared for and control when. Now that it is happening all of that seems trivial. Life is about the present, and our present is now anticipation, hope and excitement.
But nothing is really a life changing event these days without pictures!
Above is a flattering image of Kid A (temporary-official name) at about the size of a grape. By now the Kid is about the size of a lemon and likely has a much expanded vocabulary over just "hello."
Below are a few shots of Kid A's first backpacking trip into Harris Wash back in October. Stacy is standing in the bottom right of the first image.
Da keiki's first trip on a plane to a tropical paradise was Hawaii for a few weeks before Christmas. Here are just a couple of photos, we'll do another post on Hawaii later.
At the entrance to Thurston Lava Tube in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This section had a nice well-lit trail. Another unlit section was so dark and black it completely absorbed a camera flash.
A classic scene of the trip... Waves, rocks, sand, trees, sky and turtle all coming together. Take care until next time...
